Despite the story being so riveting in action and history, overall the story had little effect on me. The only time I showed any emotion in the book is where I was almost weeping when Ishmael (the main character and author) was reunited with family, his uncle. Besides that, I don’t think I’ve gained any emotional knowledge in the book. I’ve learned of the hardships and the forces responsible, which has enlightened me to feel as if I should contribute to end the chaos.
The message from the story, to me, is that family is important. I felt as if the text was reaching out and telling me, any reader actually, to cherish your loved ones. People take family members for granted, because they’re always there. But what if, one day, they weren’t? Caring for your families is a necessity, because you never never know when life is going to take them away.

The story itself is a tragedy. The vivid explanation makes me imagine the environment and the situations, as if it is true. Perhaps it is because this story is true. From small to large details, you can say that this is art expressed in words. It would have been a great movie and I wish to recommend this to my peers, relatives and other people.
I felt so much emotion reading this. Anger, sadness, sorrow, joy… all in one book. Books like these ared
I think the story was trying to tell me to never give up. Even when your family is wounded, killed, endangered… even if your friends and people who knows you betray you, look at you with hatred, scarred eyes… you have to survive and live on because life is valuable.

Personally, this novel had a large impact on my idea of war because the images of war I had were based on movies and video games that I have watched and played in the past. These texts gave me a false idea of war that all war is fought by soldiers on equal ground. But in reality, the government of a country uses children as shields to protect their soldiers. Also the government soldiers give the children cocaine to gain more energy for fighting, and even hold a throat slitting contest for the child soldiers. These descriptions of war was a shock to me that children are being used as human shields. But it was also very interesting to see how Ishmael became rehabilitated and went back to a normal life after moving to the United States with is uncle Lennie.
