Monster
By Gina Park
I have never seen,
Such a thing,
Such disaster,
Such violence,
Such mutilation,
Done by a child before.
And I used to think,
It’s not possible,
It’s not real,
It’s a fake,
that child is a monster.
Until I found myself,
Drowning,
Drowning,
In the blood
Of what I just killed.
I felt terrible,
Felt terrified,
Felt horrified,
Felt dim,
And stared at the blood on my hands.
Now what to do.
What to do.
What to think.
What to feel.
What to say...
Am I a Rebel?
Am I a Soldier?
Or am I just,
A Monster?
Such a thing,
Such disaster,
Such violence,
Such mutilation,
Done by a child before.
And I used to think,
It’s not possible,
It’s not real,
It’s a fake,
that child is a monster.
Until I found myself,
Drowning,
Drowning,
In the blood
Of what I just killed.
I felt terrible,
Felt terrified,
Felt horrified,
Felt dim,
And stared at the blood on my hands.
Now what to do.
What to do.
What to think.
What to feel.
What to say...
Am I a Rebel?
Am I a Soldier?
Or am I just,
A Monster?
